The most intriguing game in college football this Saturday is the matchup between #14 Wisconsin and #13 LSU in Houston. This is only the first game of the season, but it affects both the Badgers and the entire Big Ten conference.

With the new College Playoff, every game is important. The five major conferences (SEC, Pac-12, Big 12, ACC, Big Ten) are all fighting for legitimacy. The Big Ten, a conference that wasn’t as strong as usual in 2013, is especially fighting for legitimacy. That’s why this game is so important.

The way I see it, there are two Big Ten teams that could end up in the College Playoff. Those teams are the Spartans and the Badgers. With Braxton Miller out, I don’t see the Buckeyes having as much success. In my opinion, a school from the SEC, ACC, Big 12, or Pac-12 has a greater chance at reaching the College Football Playoff. That’s because those conferences are deeper and more legit this year.

With a win tonight against LSU, a notorious SEC school, the Badgers and the Big Ten would return to prominence. If they lose, then I don’t see any Big Ten team reaching the playoff.

This is what I love about college football. 60 minutes can affect the entire outcome of a season. The Big Ten needs a win tonight and they are hoping that the Badgers can deliver on the big stage.
